One of the projects for my summer wishlist was this cabled lace tunic from Vogue Knitting Spring/Summer 2008.

I made a start on this lovely tunic designed by Julie Hines. One area of the magazine describes it as a lace dress and another describes it as a lace tunic.

My take on it is that it's ok to consider it as a dress for anyone under 20. Over 30's will probably want to call it a tunic:-)

Progress has been very slow due to using very small needles and not wanting to aggravate my shoulder.

I'm using Brown Sheep Cotton Fine, which is around a 4ply equivalent 80% cotton/20% wool composition. I'm hoping that the wool content will make the finished item "behave" a little better and not stretch so much as cotton is want to do. The colour I'm using is Willow Leaf.

I bought the yarn from Little Knits who were fantastic to deal with. The fact that the yarn was on sale when I purchased helped sway my decision. But with the Aussie dollar suffering a battering I think I can say with confidence that there won't be any purchases offshore for some time.

It's been relatively slow going due to my ongoing should injury (rotator cuff) and working with extremely small needles isn't helping.

The ribbed waistband section is meant to be worked on 3.25mm needles but to get the right gauge, I'm using 2.25mm needles and it's almost like working with toothpicks!

I was hoping to get this finished by summer but since our summer only appears a few days at a time, I might still get to wear this before summer officially ends.

It could, in fact, be a new year's resolution; to get this finished within a month. It's doable if I just concentrate on this and forget my other projects for a few weeks!
